ABSTRACT
Objective: The research was conducted as a descriptive study to determine the views of health professionals regarding cultural humility and individual/patient privacy. Material and Methods: The population of the research consisted of 210 health professionals working in Samsun province, Havza State Hospital, family health centers and Havza Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation Center between 01.05.2022 and 15.06.2022 and who agreed to participate in the research, and the entire population was sampled. Data were collected with the Personal Information Form, Patient Privacy in Nursing Scale and Cultural Humility Opinion Form. In evaluating the data; analysis of variance, independent samples t-test, Kruskal-Wallis, Mann-Whitney U test, Cronbach's alpha test were used. The significance level was taken as 0.05. Results: 33.8% of health professionals are nurses, 22.9% are doctors, 13.3% are midwives, 84.3% work in public hospitals and 45.7% work in wards. It was determined that the rate of agreement with the statements aimed at determining the views of health professionals on cultural humility was high and the total mean score of the Patient Privacy in Nursing Scale was 4.59±0.47. Subscale mean scores are: privacy and confidentiality of personal information: 4.57±0.47; privacy regarding gender 4.48±0.57; privacy of those who cannot protect themselves 4.64±0.57; physical privacy 4.67±0.59; Creating a suitable environment is 4.67±0.58. It has been determined that healthcare professionals with high Patient Privacy in Nursing Scale scores pay attention to individual/patient privacy. The difference between the cultural humility views of health professionals and the total and sub-dimensions of the Patient Privacy in Nursing Scale was found to be statistically significant (p<0.05). Conclusion: It was determined that health professionals' participation in views on cultural humility and individual/patient privacy scale scores were high, and they were found to be sensitive to cultural humility and individual/patient privacy. In line with these results, health professionals should be encouraged to maintain their sensitivity and awareness towards cultural humility and individual/patient privacy. It is recommended to conduct qualitative research to determine their views and approaches towards support, cultural humility and individual/patient privacy.
