Fear of Childbirth Prior to Pregnancy Among Childless Individuals: Descriptive Cross-Sectional Study

ÖZET
 Amaç: Bu çalışmanın amacı, çocuğu olmayan bireylerin gebelik öncesi doğum korkusunu belirlemektir. Gereç ve Yöntemler: Tanımlayıcı ve kesitsel nitelikte olan araştırma, Nisan-Haziran 2021 tarihleri arasında 800 birey (389 kadın, 411 erkek) ile yürütülmüştür. Çalışmanın verileri Kişisel Bilgi Formu ve Gebelik Öncesi Doğum Korkusu Ölçeği (GÖDKÖ) ile toplanmıştır. Google Formlar aracılığı ile çevrim içi toplanan verilerin analizinde tanımlayıcı istatistik, oneway ANOVA, bağımsız gruplarda t-testi ve ki-kare kullanılmıştır. Bulgular: Kadın katılımcıların yaş ortalaması 23,09±3,24, erkeklerin ise 23,47±3,73 idi. Kadınların %69,9'u, erkeklerin %64,5'i üniversite mezunu/okuyan ve kadınların %55,3'ünün, erkeklerin %53,8'inin medeni durumu bekârdır. Hem kadın hem erkek katılımcıların büyük çoğunluğunun ekonomik durum algısı orta düzeyde (sırasıyla %62,0; %59,1) ve çekirdek aile yapısına sahiptir (sırasıyla %75,3; %73,2). Kadınların %85,6'sının, erkeklerin %87,6'sının gelecekteki doğum tercihi normal doğumdur. Kadınların büyük çoğunluğu (%81,0) ve erkeklerin %36,3'ü doğumdan korktuğunu ifade etmiştir. Kadınların, GÖDKÖ toplam puan ortalaması 40,25±11,04, erkeklerin ise 33,83±9,76 idi ve katılımcıların ölçek puan ortalaması arasındaki fark istatistiksel olarak anlamlıdır (p=0,0001). Katılımcıların gelecekteki doğum tercihi (kadın p=0,01, erkek p=0,004) ve doğum korkusu yaşama durumu (p=0,0001) ile ölçek puan ortalaması arasında istatistiksel olarak anlamlı bir fark bulunmuştur. Sonuç: Bu çalışmada, her iki cinsiyet de (kadınlarda daha fazla) gebelik öncesi doğum korkusu yaşamaktadır.

ABSTRACT
 Objective: This study aims to determine the fear of childbirth prior to pregnancy among childless individuals. Material and Methods: This descriptive cross-sectional study was conducted with 800 individuals (389 females, 411 males) between April and June 2021. The data of the study were collected with the personal information form and the fear of childbirth prior to pregnancy scale. Descriptive statistics, one-way ANOVA, t-test for independent groups and chi-square were used in the analysis of data collected online via Google Forms. Results: In this study, the average age of female participants was 23.09±3.24 and 23.47±3.73 for men. 69.9% of women, 64.5% of men were university graduates/undergraduates 55.3% of women and 53.8% of men were single. The economic situation perception of the majority of both male and female participants was moderate (respectively 62.0%, 59.1%) and they had nuclear family structure (respectively 75.3%, 73.2%). The future birth preference of 85.6% of women and 87.6% of men is normal birth. Most of the women (81.0%) and 36.3% of the men sated that they are afraid of birth. The total mean score of the fear of childbirth prior to pregnancy scale for women is 40.25±11.04, and for men is 33.83±9.76, the difference between the participants' mean scale score is statistically significant (p=0.0001). A statistically significant difference was found between the participants' future birth preference (female p=0.01, male p=0.004) and fear of delivery (p=0.0001) and the scale mean score. Conclusion: In this study, both genders (more in women) have experienced pre-pregnancy fear of delivery.

1. TERMS OF USE

1.1. 4. GENERAL PROVISIONS

4.1. "Turkiye Klinikleri" is completely free to determine which of the services and contents provided in the "SITE" will be charged.

4.2. People benefiting from the services provided by "Turkiye Klinikleri" and using the website can use the "SITE" only according to the law and only for personal reasons. Users have the criminal and civil liability for every process and action they take in the "SITE". Any changes and/or corrections that are required by "Turkiye Klinikleri", may be made by "Turkiye Klinikleri" when needed. Any harm, criminal and civil liability resulted or will result from changes and/or corrections required by "Turkiye Klinikleri" and were not made on time by the "USER"s belongs completely to the users.

4.8. "Turkiye Klinikleri" may give links through the "SITE" to other websites and/or "CONTEXT"s and/or folders that are outside of their control and owned and run by third parties. These links are provided for ease of reference only and do not hold qualification for support the respective web SITE or the admin or declaration or guarantee for the information inside. "Turkiye Klinikleri" does not hold any responsibility over the web-sites connected through the links on the "SITE", folders and context, the services or products on the websites provided through these links or their context.

4.9. "Turkiye Klinikleri" may use the information provided to them by the "USERS" through the "SITE" in line with the terms of the "PRIVACY POLICY" and "USER CONTRACT". "Turkiye Klinikleri" may also use the USER's or visitor's identity, address, e-mail address, phone number, IP number, which sections of the "SITE" they visited, domain type, browser type, date and time information to provide statistical evaluation and customized services.

5.1. Being late or failure of performance or non-defaulting of this and similar cases like this will not be the case from the viewpoint of "Turkiye Klinikleri", and "Turkiye Klinikleri" will not have any damage liability for these situations. "Force majeure" term will be regarded as outside of the concerned party's reasonable control and any situation that "Turkiye Klinikleri" cannot prevent even though it shows due diligence. Also, force majeure situations include but not limited to natural disasters, rebellion, war, strike, communication problems, infrastructure and internet failure, power cut and bad weather conditions.

8. LAW AND AUTHORISATION TO FOLLOW

Turkish Law will be applied in practicing, interpreting the hereby "Terms of Use" and managing the emerging legal relationships within this "Terms of Use" in case of finding element of foreignness, except for the rules of Turkish conflict of laws. Ankara Courts and Enforcement Offices are entitled in any controversy happened or may happen due to hereby contract.

9. CLOSING AND AGREEMENT

Hereby "Terms of Use" come into force when announced in the "SITE" by "Turkiye Klinikleri". The users are regarded to agree to hereby contract terms by using the "SITE". "Turkiye Klinikleri" may change the contract terms and the changes will be come into force by specifying the version number and the date of change on time it is published in the "SITE".
