ÖZET
 Amaç: Çalışmamızın amacı, cinsiyet tayininde maksillar sinüs ölçümlerinin kullanılabilirliğini ve özellikle sadece sağlam kafa iskeletinin olduğu kalıntılarda maksillar sinüs ölçümleriyle yapılacak cinsiyet tayini çalışmalarında 'latent class analizi (LCA)' yönteminin güvenilirliğini tartışmaktır. Gereç ve Yöntemler: Çalışma evrenini, Başkent Üniversitesi Ankara Hastanesine 2021 yılında başvuran hastalardan paranazal bilgisayarlı tomografi çekilen, yaşları 20 ve üzeri olan, 40 kadın, 12 erkek oluşturmaktadır. Maksillar sinüslerden derinlik, genişlik ve yükseklik ölçümleri alındı. Sayısal değişkenlerin normal dağılıma uygunluğu Shapiro-Wilk normallik testi ile incelendi. Tanımlayıcı istatistik olarak normal dağılan değişkenler için ortalama±standart sapma, normal dağılmayanlar için medyan (minimum-maksimum) değerleri verildi. Ölçüm değişkenlerinin cinsiyete göre farklılıklarının incelenmesinde Student t-testi ve Mann-Whitney U testi kullanıldı. Maksillar sinüs ölçümlerinin cinsiyet tespitinde kullanılabilirliğini incelemek için LCA kullanıldı. Bulgular: Analizler kadın ve erkeklerdeki maksiller sinüs alan ve hacim ölçümleri arasında istatistiksel olarak anlamlı bir farklılık olduğunu gösterdi. Çalışmanın ikinci aşamasında; LCA ile cinsiyet kestirimi yapıldı. LCA ile cinsiyet kestirimi amacıyla, değişkenlerin farklı kombinasyonlarıyla modeller oluşturuldu ve bu modellerin doğru sınıflama oranları tabloda gösterildi (Tablo 4). Sonuç: LCA modelleri, örneklem genelinde cinsiyetleri doğru sınıflama konusunda başarılı olurken, cinsiyetler açısından değerlendirildiğinde aynı performansı gösteremedi. Bu nedenle LCA yönteminin, büyük ve cinsiyet gruplarının homojen dağıldığı örneklem gruplarında kullanımının daha uygun olacağı sonucuna varıldı.

ABSTRACT
 Objective: Our study aims to discuss the usability of maxillary sinus measurements in sex determination and the reliability of the 'latent class analysis (LCA)' method in sex determination studies to be performed with maxillary sinus measurements, especially in remains with only intact cranial skeleton. Material and Methods: The study population consists of paranasal sinus computed tomography images of 40 female and 12 male patients, aged 20 and over, who applied to Başkent University Ankara Hospital in 2021. Depth, width, and height measurements were taken from the maxillary sinuses. The distribution of the numerical variable was examined using the ShapiroWilk normality test. The mean±standard deviation for normally distributed variables and the median value (minimum-maximum) for non-normally distributed variables were given as descriptive statistics. Student's t-test and Mann-Whitney U test were used to analyze the differences in measurement variables according to gender. LCA was used to examine the usability of maxillary sinus measurements in sex determination. Results: Analyzes showed a statistically significant difference between both maxillary sinus area and volume measurements in males and females. For the purpose of sex estimation with LCA, models were constructed with different combinations of variables, and the correct classification rates of these models are given in the table. Conclusion: While LCA models correctly classify the sexes across the sample, they could not perform as well when analyzed in different sex groups. Therefore, it was concluded that the LCA method would be more appropriate to use in large sample groups with homogeneous distribution of gender groups.

8. LAW AND AUTHORISATION TO FOLLOW

Turkish Law will be applied in practicing, interpreting the hereby "Terms of Use" and managing the emerging legal relationships within this "Terms of Use" in case of finding element of foreignness, except for the rules of Turkish conflict of laws. Ankara Courts and Enforcement Offices are entitled in any controversy happened or may happen due to hereby contract.

9. CLOSING AND AGREEMENT

Hereby "Terms of Use" come into force when announced in the "SITE" by "Turkiye Klinikleri". The users are regarded to agree to hereby contract terms by using the "SITE".
