Bulgular: Katılımcıların yaş ortalaması 37,6±10,7 olup %72'si kadın, %28'i erkektir. Astım tanılı hastaların %28'i GETAT yöntemlerinden birini kullanmaktadır. Hastaların %82,1'i öksürük nedeniyle %91,1'i rahatlamak amacıyla GETAT'ı tercih etmektedir.

ABSTRACT
Objective: This study was conducted to evaluate the rates of complementary and alternative treatment (CAM) use and influencing variables in patients with asthma. Material and Methods: The population of this cross-sectional study was carried out with 200 asthmatic patients registered to Family Health Centers in Eskişehir on 15.07.2021-20.10.2021. In the study, when the patient with a diagnosis of asthma stated that he used any CAM, he was accepted as ''using CAM.'' Results: The mean age of the participants was 37.6±10.7, and 72% were female and 28% were male. Patients with a diagnosis of asthma 28% use one of the CAM methods. Patients mostly (66.1%) use mixed herbal tea, ginger (39.2%) and honey (37.5%) as CAM. 82.1% of the patients prefer CAM for cough and 91.1% for relief. The use of CAM was statistically higher in women, married people and as the time spent with asthma increased compared to non-users (p<0.05). Conclusion: In this study, it was determined that CAM applications are widely used by asthmatic patients and the frequently used CAM method is herbal products. We recommend that patients be informed about the possible harmful effects of some traditional practices, but safe and beneficial practices that provide spiritual well-being can be supported. It may be recommended to inform the public about CAM methods by health professionals trained in the field of CAM and to take measures to prevent unconscious use. The most appropriate strategy is to teach patients this knowledge in Family Health Centers. It is necessary to add courses to the curriculum on topics such as the most commonly used CAM methods in the society where healthcare professionals work, and the possible risks, benefits and limitations of these practices.
