ABSTRACT
Objective: It is the evaluation of the knowledge, belief and practice of nurses working in the hospital during the pandemic about hand hygiene (HH). Material and Methods: The research is cross-sectional and descriptive. The population of the research consisted of 450 nurses working in a training and research hospital in the west of our country, and the sample consisted of 437 nurses. The research was conducted between 25 May-01 July 2022, using the data collection form consisting of the nurses' personal information form and the Hand Hygiene Quastionnaire. The data were analyzed with the help of ''SPSS'' statistical package program, with frequency and percentage distribution, arithmetic mean, analysis of variance, t-test, Pearson correlation analysis and regression model. Results: It was determined that 46.5% of the nurses participating in the study worked in the internal unit, 38.2% worked in the hospital for 10 years or more, 27.9% were in the 42-49 age group, 64.8% had a bachelor's degree. It was determined that all of the nurses received training on HH, and 22% of them had a lack of equipment for HH in the hospital. It was determined that 62.9% of the nurses used disinfectants in HH, and 69.1% had skin problems after washing their hands. In this study; A statistically significant difference was found between the nurses' age, years of working in the hospital, graduation status, lack of handwashing equipment, and their skin problems after washing hands, and the Hand Hygiene Quastionnaire total score averages (p<0.05). Conclusion: It was determined that nurses' Hand Hygiene Quastionnaire total score averages were high during the pandemic process. In addition, a statistically significant difference was determined between the nurses' age, working year, graduation status, lack of hand washing equipment, skin problems after washing hands, and the total score averages of the Hand Hygiene Quastionnaire. It can be recommended to eliminate the lack of equipment for HH of nurses, to facilitate access to HH products, and to ensure that the products used for HH are safe.
