Ebeveynlerin %81,9'u çocuğunda bruksizm olmadığını %2,8'i ise bilmediğini ifade etmiştir. Ebeveynlerin sadece %43,1'i bruksizm hakkında bilgilidir; %72,2'si bruksizmin sebepleri hakkında bilgi sahibi değil iken %18,1'i sebebin stres olabileceğini belirtmiştir.

ABSTRACT
Objective: With early diagnosis, childhood bruxism can be prevented from continuing into adulthood. The role of the family in early diagnosis is very important. In this study, it was aimed to evaluate the presence of bruxism in children aged 4-7 years and the awareness of parents. Material and Methods: A total of 72 systemically healthy children aged 4-7 years who applied to the clinic for routine examination and their parents were included in the study. After the demographic information of the children was obtained, questions were asked to the parents to determine their level of knowledge of bruxism, and the parents were asked to fill out a questionnaire for the diagnosis of bruxism in children. To confirm the diagnosis of bruxism in children, in addition to parental statements, an intraoral clinical examination was performed by the investigators and the presence of tooth wear, tooth marks on the tongue, the presence of mobility in the teeth, the presence of hyperkeratosis areas in the cheek and oral mucosa, the presence of fractures in the teeth and the presence of hypertrophy in the chewing muscles were evaluated. Descriptive statistics, chi-square test, Fisher's exact chi-square test were used for statistical analysis and the p value was determined as 0.05. Results: It was determined that 48.6% of the children participating in the study had bruxism after their clinical examination. Although bruxism was diagnosed in 48.6% of the children; only 15.3% of parents stated that their child had bruxism. 81.9% of the parents stated that their child did not have bruxism and 2.8% stated that they did not know. Only 43.1% of parents are knowledgeable about bruxism; While 72.2% of them did not know about the causes of bruxism, 18.1% stated that the reason might be stress. There was no significant relationship between gender and the presence of bruxism (p>0.005). No significant correlation was observed between the presence of bruxism in the parent and the presence of bruxism in the child (p=0.675). Conclusion: The level of knowledge and awareness of families about the diagnosis of bruxism in children is very important. It will contribute to the fact that parents have more information about childhood bruxism in terms of treating bruxism at the right time.
