ABSTRACT
Objective: This study was conducted to examine the effect of ''core'' strength training on ''core'' muscle endurance, balance, agility and anaerobic power parameters in adolescent male basketball players. Material and Methods: Thirteen male basketball players with an age average of 16.84±0.37 years participate in the study. The athletes were given a core exercise program for 6 weeks, 3 days a week and 40 minutes a day. Before and after the six-week training program, the core muscle endurance was evaluated with the McGill Endurance test, the static balance with the Biodex Balance System, agility with the Hexagonal Obstacle Test (HOT) and the anaerobic power with the Running Based Anaerobic Sprint Test (RAST). Results: Before and after training of basketball players; it was found that there was a statistically significant difference in the core muscle endurance, RAST and HOT scores, and the swing index on the closed eyes soft ground in the balance test (p<0.05) and no difference in terms of postural stability and limit of stability (p>0.05). Conclusion: It has been determined that the core training program can be applied to increase the core muscle endurance as well as to develop parameters that affect physical performance such as agility and anaerobic power. In order to decrease the risk of injury and increase sportive performance, core exercise programs should be added to adolescent basketball players' training.
