ABSTRACT
Objective: The study is an endeavour to determine the perception types and experiences regarding the caregiver role of adult children who take care of their parents with Alzheimer's receiving institutional home care or not. Material and Methods: The purposeful sampling method was applied in this study that is conducted with qualitative research method. The study was carried out with 20 caregivers who care for their middle-stage parents diagnosed with Alzheimer's. While 10 of these patients utilized Antalya Metropolitan Municipality Home Care services, 10 patients were registered with Altınkum Family Health Center and did not receive institutional home care services. The research data was collected face-to-face in the form of in-depth interviews and analysed in 15 main themes by content analysis. Results: The perceptions and experiences of both groups, i.e. individuals who received institutional home care services and those who cared for their parents without this service were found to be similar, using a cross-sectional regression analysis. In general, they had limited information resources about Alzheimer disease and the care process. They experienced various role and circumstantial changes and limitations in their daily lives. Unfortunately, these individuals tried to cope with these problems by themselves and could not get the support and service they needed. Conclusion: Almost all the participants give care willingly and with affection, but they clearly need more information and social support and care cost support for better care management.
