ABSTRACT
Objective: This research coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID19) pandemic with the level of perceived stress of college students in the process of career to examine the relationship between optimism, was intended to determine the roadmap for universities and academics. Material and Methods: This research was conducted in a cross-sectional type in April-May 2021 with students studying in the field of health during the COVID-19 pandemic process. Four hundred sixty nine university students participated in the study. The questionnaire, consisting of 3 parts, was collected through an online questionnaire. The questionnaire sections consist of introductory features, perceived stress scale and career optimism. Frequency, percentage, mean, standard deviation and multiple linear regression analysis were used in the analysis of the data. Necessary permissions and ethical approval were obtained to conduct the research. Results: In the research, 83.6% of the students have entrepreneurial characteristics and 87.4% have self-efficacy beliefs. In addition, while 74.0% of the students think that they cannot find a job, 70.1% do not receive career counseling. It was found that the stress level of the students was at an average level and the level of career optimism was above average. The created model explains 41.3% of the variance of career optimism. The variables of being a career goal, satisfaction with choosing a profession, entrepreneurship, self-efficacy belief, receiving career counseling, professional identity satisfaction predict career optimism positively. However, the perception of stress and the inability to find a job negatively predict career optimism. A one-unit increase in the stress perception score was associated with a 0.221 decrease in the career optimism score. Conclusion: Students' perception of stress is moderate and their career optimism is high. The increase in students' perception of stress reduces their career optimism. In this regard, it is recommended to carry out activities and information that reduce the stress levels of students at universities and determine their career processes.
