Objective: The aim of this study was to evaluate the central macula, retinal nerve fiber (superior, inferior, nasal and temporal quadrants) and choroidal (central, nasal and temporal) thicknesses in cases with Iron Deficiency Anemia (IDA) before and after treatment with Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT). Material and Methods: This prospective study was conducted with 40 female patients aged 19-54 years who were referred from the internal medicine outpatient clinic to the ophthalmology outpatient clinic due to IDA between March and April 2023. After a complete ophthalmological examination was performed on all cases; central macular, subfoveal, nasal (1,000 microns) and temporal (1,000 microns) choroidal thickness and retinal nerve fiber thickness (RNLF) in 4 quadrants were evaluated with Spectral-Domain OCT before starting treatment and 3 months after treatment. Results: The mean age of the 40 female patients included in the study was calculated as 34.74±9.64. When the values of the case with IDA before and 3 months after treatment were compared, it was determined that there was a significant increase in the central, nasal and temporal choroidal thicknesses after treatment (for all values p<0.001), while no significant difference was observed in the central macular thickness before and after treatment (p=0.194). There was also no significant difference in the RNLF superior, inferior, nasal and temporal quadrants before and after treatment (p=0.171, p=0.508, p=0.233 and p=0.977). Conclusion: In conclusion, the findings obtained from the study support the idea that IDA causes changes in the choroidal tissue, which is one of the regions of the body with a dense vascular network.
