ABSTRACT
Objective: This cross-sectional study investigated the prevalence of periradicular radiolucency (PR) and the quality of root canal filling and coronal restorations and the relationship between root canal filling and PR prevalence in adult patients admitted to Çukurova University Dentistry clinics. Material and Methods: Among the 2,326 patients who applied to the clinics, 202 volunteer patients who met the study criteria were included in the study and a total of 310 anterior teeth were evaluated. In the radiographic evaluation, the density of the root canal filling, the distance of the root canal filling to the root apex and the periapical index (PAI) score were determined. Color and marginal compatibility of coronal restorations were evaluated using modified Ryge criteria. The statistical analyzes were performed using the chisquare test and Pearson correlation coefficient was calculated. Intraobserver and inter-observer agreement was calculated using the kappa test (α=0.05). Results: Among all the teeth examined, the highest '2' PAI score was seen with a rate of 28.8% (89). A significant correlation was found between the position of the end point of the root canal filling relative to the apex and the PAI score (p<0.0001). The compatibility level of the restorations with the teeth in terms of anatomical form was 66.7% and the marginal compatibility of the restoration was 40.3%. Conclusion: Root fillings with short and insufficient density had a significant effect on the presence of periapical lesions. No correlation was found between the restoration status of anterior teeth and the prevalence of PR.
