ABSTRACT
Objective: The aim of this study was to investigating predictive power of body composition, full squat, barbell peak power and vertical jump tests for the total performance of competition snatch and clean and jerk total in young weightlifters. Material and Methods: The study included 68 male junior weightlifters. The snatch and clean and jerk total was considered as the total of snatch and clean and jerk at an official national championships held before the tests. The standard one repetition maximum full squat test was performed. Countermovement jump, squat jump, 40 cm drop jump, 30 sn multiple jump tests were taken and jump powers was estimated using an equation developed by Sayers et al. The peak power output of the barbell bar was obtained during a snatch pull at a load corresponding to 85% of a repeat maximum. Pearson correlation and Ridge regression methods were used for statistical analysis. Results: It was found that there was a high correlation between maximal full squat and peak barbell power and competition performance, and there was a moderate correlation with countermovement jump power (r=0.86/0.79/0.65, respectively). Multiple Ridge regression analysis showed that these variables explained the change in competition performance by 79%. Conclusion: The results of this study show that the best predictors of snach and clean and jerk total performance in young weightlifters are maximal full squat, peak barbell power and countermovement jump power tests.
