The Effect of Body Mass Index on Fonatory Aerodynamic Measurement Parameters in Women

ÖZET
 Amaç: Bu çalışmanın amacı, solunum fonasyon koordinasyonunu değerlendirmeye yardımcı, aletsel bir aerodinamik ölçüm yöntemi olan fonatuar aerodinamik sistem cihazından elde edilecek veriler ile beden kitle indeksi arasındaki olası ilişkiyi incelemektir. Gereç ve Yöntemler: Çalışma grubunu 18-25 yaş arası sağlıklı sese sahip 81 kadın katılımcı oluşturmaktadır. Katılımcılar zayıf (n=21), normal (n=20), fazla kilolu (n=20) ve obez (n=20) olmak üzere 4 beden kitle indeksi (BKİ)nin grubuna ayrılmıştır. Akustik ölçümler KayPENTAXPAS Model 6600 ile gerçekleştirilmiştir. Bulgular: Maksimum Sürdürülebilir Fonasyon Süresi (MFS) ile BKİ arasında ise istatistiksel olarak anlamlı bir ilişki bulunmamıştır (p>0,05). Bununla birlikte ortalama değerler incelendiğinde, fazla kilolu (x̄=15,88±5,95) ve obez (x̄=15,43±4,93) gruba ait ortalama değerler, zayıf (x̄=14,51±5,07) ve normal (x̄=14,74±5,06) gruba ait ortalama değerlerden daha büyük elde edilmiştir. Ek olarak ses basınç seviyesi (SPL) ranjı değeri anlamlı olarak fazla kilolu gruptan (p<0,05) ve ortalama değer olarak ise diğer gruplardan daha yüksek bulunmuştur. Sonuç: Çalışma sonuçlarına göre SPL ranjı dışında elde edilen parametreler ile hiçbir BKİ grubu arasında istatistiksel olarak anlamlı ilişki bulunmamıştır. Ancak obez gruptaki ortalama değerlerin diğer gruplardan tutarlı olarak daha yüksek elde edilmiş olması bu iki değişken arasında olası bir ilişkinin var olabileceğini ancak bu çalışmada, yetersiz katılımcıdan dolaylı anlamlı ilişkinin ortaya çıkmadığını düşündürmektedir.

ABSTRACT
 Objective: The aim of this study is to investigate the possible relationship between body mass index and the data to be obtained from the phonatory aerodynamic system device, which is an instrumental aerodynamic measurement method, that helps evaluate respiratory funding coordination. Material and Methods: The study group consists of 81 female participants between the ages of 18-25 who have healthy voices. The participants were divided into 4 body mass index (BMI) groups and these are, underweight (n=21), normal weight (n=20), overweight (n=20) and obese (n=20). Acoustic measurements were carried out with KayPENTAX-PAS Model 6600. Results: There was no statistically significant relationship between Maximum Sustainable Phonation Time (MPT) and BMI (p>0.05). However, when the average values are examined, the average values of the overweight (x̄=15.88±5.95) and Obese (x̄=15.43±4.93) group are weak (x̄=14.51±5.07) and higher than average values belonging to normal (x̄=14.74±5.06) group. In addition, the sound pressure level (SPL) range value was significantly higher than the overweight group (p<0.05) and the mean value was higher than the other groups. Conclusion: According to the results of the study, no statistically significant relationship was found between the parameters obtained outside the SPL range and any BMI group. However, the fact that the mean values in the obese group were consistently higher than the other groups, suggests that there may be a possible relationship between the two variables, but an indirect meaningful relationship did not emerge from the insufficient participants in this study.

"Force majeure" term will be regarded as outside of the concerned party's reasonable control and any situation that "Turkiye Klinikleri" cannot prevent even though it shows due diligence. Also, force majeure situations include but not limited to natural disasters, rebellion, war, strike, communication problems, infrastructure and internet failure, power cut and bad weather conditions.

8. LAW AND AUTHORISATION TO FOLLOW

Turkish Law will be applied in practicing, interpreting the hereby "Terms of Use" and managing the emerging legal relationships within this "Terms of Use" in case of finding element of foreignness, except for the rules of Turkish conflict of laws. Ankara Courts and Enforcement Offices are entitled in any controversy happened or may happen due to hereby contract.

9. CLOSING AND AGREEMENT

Hereby "Terms of Use" come into force when announced in the "SITE" by "Turkiye Klinikleri". The users are regarded to agree to hereby contract terms by using the "SITE". "Turkiye Klinikleri" may change the contract terms and the changes will be come into force by specifying the version number and the date of change on time it is published in the "SITE".
