ABSTRACT
Objective: This study aimed to investigate the effects of interval training on blood lactate levels and heart rate on roller skiers. 10 athletes from the roller skiing branch were included in the study. Material and Methods: Ten athletes from the roller skiing branch were included in the study. The athletes' heights were measured using a stadiometer, body weights were measured using a tanita scale, and lactate (LA) levels were measured using lactate analyzers. Resting, initial, intermediate and final LA and pulse measurements of the athletes were recorded. Athletes were given interval training on a 1,600-meter track at 80-90% of their maximum heart rate 3 times a week for 4 weeks. One way analysis of variance was used to find the difference between the measurements and Pearson correlation analysis was used for the relationship between LA and pulse. Results: It was found that there was a significant difference in resting LA levels of female athletes between weeks 1-3, 1-4, 2-4 and intermediate and final LA levels between weeks 1-4 (p<0.05). In male athletes, there was a significant difference in resting LA levels between weeks 1-4, 2-4 and 3-4; in intermediate and final LA levels between weeks 1-4; and in initial pulse rates between weeks 1-2, 1-3 and 1-4 (p<0.05). There was a positive relationship between initial and resting pulse of the athletes, and between initial LA and resting pulse, respectively (p=0.724, p=0.322); a positive relationship between intermediate pulse and resting and initial pulse, respectively (p=0.360, p=0.599); a positive relationship between intermediate LA and resting and initial LA, respectively (p=0.450, p=0.371); a positive correlation was found between the last pulse and resting, initial and intermediate pulses (p=0.428, p=0.595, p=0.932), a negative correlation was found between the last LA and resting pulse (p=- 0.325), and a positive correlation was found between resting and intermediate LA (p=0.576, p=0.714), respectively. Conclusion: It was determined that the interval training applied to the athletes resulted in a significant decrease in lactate (LA) and heart rate values. It is believed that including this method in training plans will contribute to improvements in athletes' performance.
