ABSTRACT
Objective: In this study, it was aimed to determine the relationship between muscle strength and bone mineral density (BMD) of lumbar vertebra (L1-L4) and femur region in football players and sedentaries according to gender by comparing T and Z scores. The study included boys and girls with regular football training and sedentary boys and woman with similar physical characteristics. Material and Methods: A total of 80 individuals, who are 18-25 yearold football player woman and boys, and sedentary woman and boys in the same age group, participated in the study voluntarily. Following the measurement of hand grip, back and leg strength of individuals who were included in the study, lumbar vertebra (L1, L2, L3, L4) and femur region BMD, T and Z scores were measured for BMD measurements. Multidimensional scaling analysis technique was used to investigate the relationships between T and Z scores of individuals regarding strength parameters and BMD. Results: It was found that strength values were better in football players, but the relationship between T and Z scores of BMD in lumbar and femur regions did not differ according to gender and groups. Conclusion: BMD in the lumbar spine (L1-L4) region and femoral neck were significant in favour of footballers in all group. According to the strength parameters and BMD (T and Z scores) multidimensional scaling analysis measured in all groups regardless of group and gender differences, T and Z scores were found to be more related to hand grip strength in.
