Objective: There are differences in the perspective, evaluation and treatment methods of obesity among healthcare professionals. The aim of this study is to evaluate the attitudes and behaviors of internal medicine specialists and general surgery specialists towards treatment of obese patients. Material and Methods: This study is descriptive. A questionnaire form consisting of 11 questions and obesity prejudice scale prepared by the researchers was applied to the participants via face-to-face interview method. A total of 116 volunteer participants, 58 (%50) internal medicine specialists and 58 (%50) general surgery specialists, participated in the study. Results: It was determined that drug treatment recommendation of individuals with internal medicine specialization was preferred more than individuals with general surgery specialization (p=0.027). It was observed that there was a statistically significant difference in the lifestyle recommendation of physicians with internal medicine specialization compared to physicians with general surgery specialization (p=0.012). For patients with BMI≥30 kg/m² and BMI≥40 kg/m², there was no difference in the participants' obesity prejudice level according to their diet treatment, physical activity, drug treatment and surgical method preferences (p>0.05). The participants' Obesity Prejudice Attitude score averages differed according to their surgical method preferences (p=0.044). The participants' Obesity Prejudice Attitude score averages differed according to their drug treatment preferences (p=0.026). Conclusion: It was observed that treatment recommendations differed according to the field of expertise. A multidisciplinary approach should be determined in the treatment of obesity and treatment protocols should be updated frequently.
