ABSTRACT
This research was conducted to determine the medical value perceptions of Pamukkale University Faculty of Medicine first and sixth grade students. The research was conducted as descriptive and cross-sectional. The data were collected between December 20, December 31-2021 by sociodemographic data form and the Medical Value Perception (MVP) scale and online survey method. A total of 160 students, 91 of whom were in the first grade and 69 were in the sixth grade, participated in the research. Descriptive statistics were used in data analysis, Mann-Whitney U and Kruskal-Wallis tests were used in comparisons between groups, and p≤0.05 was accepted as statistical significance level. According to our research results, the total MVP scale score of the students was determined as 76.43±6.07. When the subgroup scores of the scale were examined, it was determined that the mean score of 'physician attitude' was 35.65±2.92, the mean score of 'patient-physician relationship' was 26.6±2.32, and the mean score of 'physician empathy' was 14.18±2.52. When the distribution of the scores obtained by the students from the MVP scale is examined according to the options, the most adopted medical value is 'physicians should know their professional rights', and the least accepted medical values are 'physicians should be close to their patients socially and culturally'. When the differences between the classes in which the students were educated were examined, it was determined that only the physician attitude score showed a statistically significant difference between the classes (p<0.05). It was observed that the physician attitude scores of the sixth grade students were lower than the first grade students. According to the scale evaluation, the participant students have a high perception of medical value. Only physician attitude scores have decreased over the years. It is thought that research on students' perceptions of medical value will contribute to medical education.
