ABSTRACT
Objective: The aim of this research was to test validity and reliability of Attitudes Scale for High School Students towards Coaching Job in a university student sample. The second aim was to determine the participants' attitude towards sports coaching and to investigate it according to some socio-demographic variables. Material and Methods: A total of 124 candidate sports coaches from faculty of sports sciences, department of sports coaching education, including 96 males (Mage=22.14±4.05) and 28 females (Mage=21.11±1.91), participated in the study. Personal information form and Attitudes Scale for High School Students towards Coaching Job were applied to the participants. Factor structure of the scale in the sample group was evaluated by confirmatory factor analysis in AMOS 20 software. Also, average variance extracted (AVE) for convergent validity as well as composite reliability coefficients and Cronbach's alpha values for reliability were calculated. The investigations according to socio-demographic variables were carried out by independent samples t-test and ANOVA in SPSS 17. Results: It was determined according to the result of confirmatory factor analysis that the factor structure of 15 items with 3 sub-dimensions has the acceptable model fit indices [CFI=.95, NFI=.90, NNFI=.94, X2/df=1.66, RMSA=.073]. Cronbach's alpha coefficients ranged between .77-.92 and composite reliability coefficients were between .73-.92. AVE values were found to be between .48-.65. It was also determined that there was no significant difference in the attitude scores towards sports coaching profession according to gender, the status of practicing sports actively, having a sportsman in the family and being a national athlete (p>.05). Analysis according to class level and receiving pedagogical formation training revealed that there was a significant difference (p<.05). Conclusion: Attitudes towards Sports Coaching Profession Scale is a valid and reliable measurement tool that can be used in university students. It was also determined that participants' attitudes towards sports coaching profession differed according to some socio-demographic variables.
