ABSTRACT
Parents' sharing of photos, videos and other posts containing personal information of their children on social media platforms is called "sharenting", a concept created from the combination of English words "share" and "parenting". On social media platforms, parents mostly create the content of their posts from their children's special days, their children's health conditions such as surgery and illnesses, and social activities they do with their children. It is accepted that the general motivation of parents is the desire to improve social and emotional bonding with important people in their lives and their impression management needs about sharenting. Although the sharenting phenomenon provides positive results for parents such as psychological well-being, support by the family and society, and self-expression on social media platforms, it can also have devastating consequences for children, especially developmental problems, psychological wellbeing impairment, exposure to digital identity theft and deterioration of parent-child relationship. Sharenting is studied from the perspective of clinical and developmental psychology in terms of child-rearing styles and the concept of digital parenting, and it appears to be directly linked to both areas. In order to prevent devastating consequences such as developmental problems, psychological well-being impairment, exposure to digital identity theft and deterioration of parent-child relationship as a result of the sharenting phenomenon, it is considered that informing parents about sharenting and educating parents in order to be competent in digital parenting are important intervention methods.
