ABSTRACT
As a professional health discipline, midwives have ethical and legal responsibility in ensuring privacy. This study was carried out in descriptive design with the aim of determining relationship between professional values and privacy consciousness of midwives. It was conducted with 248 midwives working in İstanbul between February 2021 and March 2022. The data were collected with questionnaire form, Professional Values of Midwives Scale and Privacy Consciousness Scale. Independent groups t-test, one-way analysis of variance, post hoc (Tukey, LSD) analysis, Pearson correlation analysis and linear regression analysis were used in data analysis. The mean age of midwives participating in study was found to be 30.39±7.12. The total mean score of Professional Values of Midwives Scale was 91.29±13.08 and the total mean score of Privacy Consciousness Scale was determined as 50.49±6.28. Although there was a statistically significant difference between Professional Values of Midwives Scale score of midwives and age and Privacy Consciousness Scale score and ethical publication reading habit, Privacy Consciousness Scale score of midwives with ethical publication reading habit was found to be higher. It was determined that there was a positive and moderately significant relationship between the total mean score of Professional Values of Midwives Scale and the total mean score of Privacy Consciousness Scale. In regression model, it was seen that professional values of midwives explained 37% of variance in level of privacy consciousness (R2=0.369 F=145.587, p˂0.001). In line with results of study; it is thought that increasing level of professional values in midwifery will positively affect privacy consciousness.
