ABSTRACT
Objective: The purpose of this study is to determine the relationship between problematic internet use and self-efficacy perceptions of nursing students. Material and Methods: The research was designed as a quantitative research and was a descriptive research. It was conducted with 271 nursing students studying at the Uşak University Faculty of Health Sciences Department of Nursing and agreeing to participate in the study voluntarily. The research data were collected by a questionnaire in the fall semester of the 2017-2018 academic year. Problematic internet usage situations of the students were measured by 'Problematic Internet Usage Scale (PIUS)' and perceptions of self-efficacy with 'Self-Efficacy Scale (SES)'. Research data were analyzed using the SPSS 22.0 program. The socio-demographic characteristics and internet usage habits of the students were evaluated with frequency analysis and the data on the research variables with descriptive statistics regarding mean, standard deviation, minimum and maximum values, reliability and correlation analysis. Results: According to the findings of the study, it was observed that the problematic internet use of nursing students was high (128.17±27.34), and their self-efficacy perceptions were moderate (48.47±10.54). A significant negative correlation was found between nursing students' problematic internet use and their self-efficacy (r=-0.292, p=0.000). As a result of the correlation analysis made for the sub-dimensions of the PIUS and the sub-dimensions of the SES, a significant negative relationship was found. Conclusion: As students' problematic internet use increases, their selfefficacy perception decreases. Problematic internet use of students with low self-efficacy perception increases. It is recommended to improve students' self-efficacy-efficacy perceptions and to raise awareness about healthy internet use.
