ABSTRACT
Objective: The aim of this study was to evaluate the shear bond strength of a hybrid ceramic material a composite resin after different surface preparations and universal adhesives. Material and Methods: Forty specimens square prism in shape with 6 mm edge length were prepared from a hybrid ceramic block (VITA ENAMIC®, Zahnfabrik, Bad Säckingen, and Germany) with a cutting machine under water cooling. Specimens were placed in acrylic molds and upper surfaces were polished. Then they were randomly divided into two surface treatments main groups and two adhesive systems [Single Bond Universal (SBU), 3M' ESPE', USA and Tokuyama Universal Bond (TUB), Tokuyama Dental Corporation Inc., Japan] subgroups (n=10). Surface treatments were performed with laser and air abrasion devices, then universal adhesives were applied according to manufacturer instructions. Composite resin (Filtek' Z250, 3M' ESPE', USA) was placed on to the hybrid ceramics with cylindrical molds in 4mm height and diameter. Specimens were submitted to thermal aging. The shear bond strength (SBS) test was performed using universal testing machine. Data were statistically analyzed with two-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) and Tukey HSD test was used for pairwise comparisons (p0.05). Conclusion: Since TUB can polymerize without the light application, it allows quick application. SBU and TUB showed similar shear bond strength to laser surface treatment applied hybrid ceramics while TUB showed higher shear bond strength to air abraded hybrid ceramics.
