ABSTRACT
Patient health information is considered personal data and should be recorded and protected against third parties in accordance with patient rights and privacy principles. Nurses are the most important actors in recording, protecting, and considering the treatment process of patients' health data and carrying out procedures for patients. In this respect, employees and candidates working in different areas of healthcare services must have sufficient awareness regarding the recording and protecting patient health data. This study aimed to determine the awareness of health vocational school students regarding the recording and protection of patients' health data and whether this awareness varies according to demographic characteristics. In this study prepared with quantitative methods, data were collected from 487 vocational school students who will work in health services and who continue their education in Kocaeli province with surveys and scales and analyzed with numerical methods in SPSS (version 23.0) package program. The research data were collected with the Attitude Scale for Recording and Protecting Personal Health Data for Nursing Students consisting of 41 items and 5 sub-dimensions. The average attitude score of the participants on the scale was 3.71 and the scores in the sub-dimensions were distributed between 3.56-3.82. Among the demographic characteristics included in the research variables, it is seen that age, gender, and associate degree programs do not affect attitudes. It is seen that students' grade level, personal data protection knowledge level, professional legislation education, professional legislation duty knowledge, patient rights knowledge level, and patient rights education level finding the patient rights education sufficient affect attitudes at a statistically significant level. According to the research results, the education given to students about patient rights and protection of patient health data and the increase in the level of information of the students positively affects the attitudes towards recording and protecting patients' health data.
