ABSTRACT
Objective: Problems can encountered in sports and the process of coping with these problems can be affected by life skills. Therefore, it was aimed to examine the effect of team athletes' life skills on the process of coping with sportive problems. Material and Methods: Ninety-five people [69 (72.6%) men, median age 23 years] doing active team sports were included in the study. The sociodemographic characteristics of the participants, their physical activity levels (Cooper Questionnaire), life skills (Life Skills Scale for Sport), and the process of coping with problems (Athletic Coping Skills Inventory-28) were evaluated online with the forms created. Results: The coping process of the male participants in the study was higher than the females (p=0.044). It was determined that those with very good general well-being (p<0.001), those with high physical activity levels (p=0.020), and those who didn't have a sports injury (p=0.029) had high life skills. Life skills and the process of coping with problems did not differ according to sports branch, educational status, and body mass index (p>0.05). In addition, coping process was weakly associated with age of sports (r=0.243), license period (r=0.290), number of weekly training sessions (r=0.220), while life skill was only weakly associated with the number of weekly training sessions (r=0.251). Conclusion: We think that general well-being of team athletes, physical activity level, prevention against injuries are important in improving their life skills, and that increasing life skills independently of team sports branch and related factors can positively change the process of coping with problems.
