ABSTRACT
Obljective: The aim of this study is to make an overview of postgraduate theses made in Turkey about acupressure practices for pain management. Material and Methods: Firstly a literature review was conducted for the purpose of data collection and then the National Council of Higher Education Dissertation Center Database was screened for the keywords 'pain', 'acupres' 'cupressure' As a result of this search, 45 nursing theses were found to be relevant from the Institute of Health Sciences Department of Nursing between 2005 and January 2019. In this study, 28 theses that do not meet the criteria for inclusion of the theses examine dare not included in the study. Results: Data were collected by creating experiment and control groups in the majority of the 17 theses. 8 theses were master' and 9 were PhD theses. The first nursing thesis that applied acupressure for pain was found to have been conducted in 2010. When the studies were examined; most of the studies (35.2%) were performed to evaluate the effect of acupressure on labor pain. When the results of the thesis examined in our study with semi- experimental (n=2) and experimental (n=15) research design, it is seen that acupressure is effective in reducing pain. Conclusion: In recent years, acupressure, which is one of the important areas of interest in nursing research, is one of the nonpharmacological applications used to reduce pain. As a result, it is argued that the number of the theses about acupressure in Turkey seems to be low in number, despite of the increase in recent years and it is important to conduct more and academic studies as with the subject.

Keywords: Pain; acupressure; nursing; nonpharmacological method; theses
