ABSTRACT
Objective: This study was conducted to determine the problems experienced by nurse academicians during the distance education process and their exposure to psychological violence. Material and Methods: Purposive sampling method was used in this study, which was carried out using a qualitative research design. The study group in this research consisted of nurse academicians teaching in the nursing lisence program of universities in various regions of Türkiye. Research data were collected with a semi-structured interview form between October 2021 and December 2021. The data of the research were analyzed by inductive method. Results: In the study, it was determined that the average age of the nurse academicians was 38.53±7.92 years, the total working time as an academician was 10.4±2.03 years, and they gave an average of 13.08±5.04 hours of online lessons per week during the distance education process. According to the research data 3 main themes were determined; the problems experienced in the distance education process, the psychological violence experienced, and coping ways. It was stated that the problems experienced in the distance education process are the problems caused by the student, the education method, the tools-equipment and the measurement-evaluation process, the working environment and the duration. Exposure to psychological violence; it was determined that it was the psychological pressure applied by the student, applied by the administrators and experienced by the person himself. The sub-themes of positive coping and inability to cope were determined as the way of coping with psychological violence by nurse academicians. Conclusion: During the distance education process, it was determined that the nurse academicians had problems related to the students, the education method, the tools-equipment and the measurement-evaluation process, the working environment and the duration. It has been concluded that distance education is not suitable for the practice part of nursing education due to reasons such as the theory and practice are given as a whole in nursing education and the student needs to learn the nursing profession by touching and caring for the patient, and this situation causes concern among nurse academicians.
