ABSTRACT
Objective: Exam anxiety in adolescents can affect eating habits and anthropometric measurements by causing changes in mood. The aim of this study is to determine the relationship between exam anxiety and eating behavior in adolescents who are preparing for the exam of higher education institutions. Material and Methods: This cross-sectional study was conducted with a total of 174 students, 103 female and 71 male, who were preparing for the university exam. The demographic characteristics of the students were questioned through a questionnaire and their anthropometric measurements were taken. Test Anxiety Inventory (TAI) was used to determine test anxiety level and Eating Attitude Test (EAT-26) was used to evaluate eating attitude. The data of the study were analyzed using SPSS version 26.0. Results: 92.5% of the students live with their parents and 63.2% of them have normal body weight. The mean TAI score of female students (51.1±13.81) was higher than that of male students (42.5±12.43) (p0.05). According to the regression analysis, the TAI score affects the body mass index (BMI) value in the opposite direction and the EAT-26 score in the same direction (p0.05). Conclusion: Increasing exam anxiety in students may reduce food intake by causing changes in eating attitudes. Giving students nutrition education during and before the exam may be beneficial in order to ensure that the changes in eating attitudes are positive.
